Hun Neng is Laid to Rest at Sovankiri Rattanak Phnom Pros Pagoda

KAMPONG CHAM: The body of Prime Minister Hun Sen’s older brother, Hun Neng, was laid to rest at Wat Sovankiri Rattanak Phnom Pros in Kampong Cham province, on the morning of Monday, 9 May, after a three-day traditional Buddhist funeral ceremony.

The body of Hun Neng was paraded from his house in Village 7, Kampong Cham district, Kampong Cham city, Kampong Cham province, to Wat Sovankiri Rattanak in Trapeang Char village, Krala commune, Kampong Siem district, at around 8 AM on Monday morning, with Prime Minister Hun Sen and First Lady Bun Rany Hun Sen in attendance.

Hun Neng is the second older brother of Prime Minister Hun Sen. On Sunday night, the Prime Minister posted a message expressing the sadness of losing his second brother, while his first brother recently just received surgery in Thailand and still has poor health. Prime Minister Hun Sen warned his children not to tell his first brother about the death of Hun Neng.

He wrote, "Among our six brothers and sisters, the first brother was absent from the burial ceremony of the second brother. The first brother not only did not attend the burial of the second brother, but so far, he does not know that his younger brother has died. I forbade his children from telling him about his brother's death. The first brother has just left the operating room in Bangkok, Thailand, and his health is still deteriorating."

The Prime Minister said he does not know what will happen when his first brother receives the news that Hun Neng has passed away without his knowledge. "This will be sad in the next few days,”he added.

Hun Neng passed away at the age of 72 at about 6:25 PM on 5 May 2022, from a heart attack.
